The area we now know as Bloor West Village was originally property of the first commanding officer of the Queens Own Rifles, Lieutenant Colonel William Smith Durie. The road that ran through his estate is now known as Durie Street. Once it officially became part of Toronto in 1909, the neighbourhood began to take shape. We owe its popular retail sector to the Eastern European immigrants who helped establish the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Area; Canada’s first of its kind.

Bloor West Village has the convenience of the city with the comfort of a close community. Traditional homes, most built between 1912 and 1923, sit on quiet streets lined with beautiful oak and maple trees. It’s no surprise that this is a popular area for families; Bloor West Village has many reputable public, private, and Montessori schools within the neighbourhood.

Bloor West Village is located just west of High Park, Toronto’s largest park, consisting of 399 acres of gardens, trails, a sports facility, playgrounds and more. Recreation centres, libraries, and a movie theatre round out this highly sought-after neighbourhood.

This neighbourhood has easy access to anywhere in Toronto, but why would you ever leave? Most residents opt to shopping local, with over 400 unique cafes, shops, restaurants, and everyday essentials at your doorstep.
