While most of you have already decorated your home for the season, there’s still a month left of summer and August is arguably the warmest month of the season! It’s never too late to decorate and here are some trends for the summer.
Add More Colour
Summer is a bright and colourful season so swap in graphic paintings, fresh flowers or vibrant dishes for the fastest possible makeover. One colour to really focus on this year? GREEN. If you’re not too keen on flowers, use greenery instead for a fresh yet casual feel – green plates, green throws, green cushions, etc.
Go Bohemian
To achieve a bohemian look, you will be required to mix colours instead of matching them. Look for accessories of different colours and blend them to add depth and timeless beauty to your living room. The furniture that you select should be interesting with different shapes.
Mixed Patterns
To go off the bohemian look, stick to about sixty per cent of a favourite pattern and thirty per cent to a second pattern, ten per cent to a third as an accent. Try three patterns in a range of scales such as thick or narrow stripes, a midsize geometric and a bold floral. Include solids in supporting roles on a sofa or on the floor.
Navy Is The New Black
You probably have heard this before on Pinterest. Navy is the new black in 2017. Whether you’re simply looking to accent your room or give your cabinets a new splash of colour, navy blue is one of 2017’s top home colours – no matter the season.
Flowy, Sheer Curtains
Sheer curtains add a dreamy and hazy quality to a room. They’re light weight, easy to hang and they don’t dominate decor. Take the curtains outside while you’re at it. Gauzy panels in the backyard add shade from the sun, privacy and keep the bugs away.
Subway Tiles
Subway tiles have been huge ever since their debut in New York City’s subterranean train stations in the early 1900’s and then they moved into bathrooms and kitchens for practical and aesthetic reasons. These tiles are very easy to clean, they’re stain resistant and light reflective. They can also truly allow you to create an amazing look at an affordable cost.
Paint Dark Wood White
Amp up the Scandinavian decor style this summer. You rarely see dark wood because light in the room is more inviting. Painting dark wood or adding white accent pieces makes the room pop.
Plants
This summer plants are pretty much in every home. Ferns, cactuses, fig trees, terrariums are a super home trend this year. Adding a plant to a room is a simple and fast way to bring life into your home. Also, add some floral or jungle inspired prints and patterns to the rooms of your home.
Marble
This one may be a little out there but marble is definitely a top trend this year. Imitation marble found in mosaics or ceramic tiles are definitely an affordable option. Marble imitation tiles are not as permeable as real marble, which makes them a low maintenance floor covering option. Especially in kitchens or bathrooms, marble looks great when paired with bronze or golds.
Enjoy these new trends and decorate away!
